Shadow
 

"How is the human inner self formed? And what does my own inner self truly look like?"

 

These fundamental questions led me to explore psychology more deeply. Among the many books I read, I was especially drawn to the work of Carl Jung. His theories of archetypes, complexes, the collective unconscious, persona, shadow, and the self opened entirely new perspectives for me, and even the familiar MBTI personality test is rooted in his ideas.

 

But when I look into the mirror, I ask myself: is this truly me—or merely a version shaped by societal expectations? In search of my unconscious world, I returned to the essence of childhood play, this time upon a canvas. As I painted, I realized I am a kidult—someone with a deep attachment to what is often seen as "childlike."  Through spontaneous, doodle-like marks, I reconnected with the pure creativity of my early years.

 

My paintings grow from the chance forms of play, expanded by the awareness of my present self. As Jung wrote, "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate." For me, abstract painting becomes a way of giving form to my shadows.

 

<Shadow> is a kind of shadow play—a process of bringing what is hidden deep inside into the light of awareness.
