Language of the Body
The Language of the Body Series traces its lineage back to the very dawn of human history. As we know, formalized language did not exist for early humans. Instead, they conveyed their inner thoughts and raw intentions through the visceral movements of their bodies, primal vocalizations, and rudimentary drawings etched onto stone.
The subsequent advancement of civilization gave birth to structured language, facilitating efficient and seamless communication between individuals. Furthermore, in modern society, language has transcended its foundational role as a mere communicative tool; it has transformed into a powerful apparatus of self-marketing, where speaking and writing eloquently and logically is used to appeal to and influence others.
However, this highly convenient, refined, and 'scientific' language is frequently distorted and overly packaged by humanity. It is often weaponized to deceive others or utilized as a facade to conceal honest thoughts and genuine emotions. I often wonder if, because of this sophisticated screening mechanism, countless individuals have gradually lost sight of their true, unfiltered selves.
During a profound period of contemplation regarding human existence and its eventual, inevitable disappearance, I sought to visualizes these concepts by repeatedly rendering and erasing the human form upon the canvas. From the moment of birth, we exist—interacting with others, continuously doing, thinking, and feeling—until we eventually fade away into obsolescence. The emotions trapped within those fleeting, ephemeral moments can be simultaneously joyful and despairing, profoundly fulfilling yet entirely vacant.
The Nude Form within this series represents my honest endeavor to shed the superficial pretenses of language, confronting instead the fundamental human architecture and the primal emotions securely hidden within it.

몸의 언어(The Language of the Body) 시리즈는 인류 역사의 가장 깊은 원시시대로 거슬러 올라갑니다. 우리 모두가 알다시피, 초기 인류에게는 고도화된 언어가 존재하지 않았습니다. 그들은 자신의 생각과 감정을 오직 신체의 움직임, 날것의 소리, 혹은 벽면에 새긴 거친 그림을 통해 타인에게 전달했습니다.
문명이 발달하면서 비로소 언어가 탄생했고, 이는 인간 사이의 소통을 한층 매끄럽고 편리하게 만들었습니다. 나아가 현대 사회에서 언어는 단순한 의사소통 수단을 넘어, 자신을 타인에게 각인시키고 설득하기 위해 유려하고 논리적인 말과 글을 구사하는 강력한 자기표현의 무기가 되었습니다.
그러나 이 편리하고 정교하며 ‘과학적’인 언어는, 때로 인간에 의해 쉽게 왜곡되고 과도하게 포장되곤 합니다. 타인을 기만하기 위한 수단으로 전락하거나 내면의 정직한 사유와 진실한 감정을 은폐하는 가면으로 사용되기도 합니다. 역설적이게도 이 세련된 언어 때문에, 수많은 현대인이 정작 자신의 진짜 모습(True Self)을 잃어버리게 된 것은 아닌지 깊은 의문이 들었습니다.
인간의 존재와 필연적인 소멸에 대해 치열하게 고민하던 시기, 저는 화면 위에 인간의 형상을 수없이 그리고 또 지워 나가는 행위를 반복하며 이러한 문제의식을 표현했습니다. 우리는 태어나는 순간부터 타인과 공존하며 끊임없이 행동하고, 생각하고, 느끼지만, 결국 모두 희미하게 소멸해 갑니다. 그 유한한 찰나의 순간들을 채우는 감정들은 때로 환희와 절망을 오가며, 동시에 충만함과 공허함을 동반합니다.
몸의 언어(The Language of the Body) 시리즈는 언어라는 가식의 껍데기를 과감히 벗겨내고, 인간의 가장 근원적인 형태와 그 안에 숨겨진 원초적인 감정을 정직하게 마주하려는 저의 예술적 시도입니다.
