Like a Fairy Tale

The LIKE Series, inspired by the idea of fairy-tale protagonists, reflects the childhood we all once shared.

Humans are born as ‘innocents,’ believing they will receive perfect care. Yet, just as Adam and Eve were cast out of Eden, we, too, are expelled from that pure time of life. Through experiences of loss and betrayal, we awaken to reality, but a part of the self continues to dream of an ideal world. True growth begins when we heal the wounded inner child and release the identity of the victim.

Many girls play with dolls in childhood. Dolls can become both a reflection of themselves and a friend. Most dolls, like many societal ideals, are always beautifully dressed and smiling. Yet this constant smile felt strangely unsettling to me. It reflected the societal expectation that women should always appear graceful, pleasing, and flawless.

By painting dolls without smiles, I seek to resist these imposed rules. This series embodies liberation — the freedom to choose one’s own emotions and to reclaim the dreamlike innocence we once lived before our exile from Eden.

Good Luck to Everyone!
